Dr. Vishal Mehta is a Advanced Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgeon, board certified by the American Board of Surgery, and founder of the Mehta Bariatric Center.

Dr. Mehta decided to pursue a career as a Bariatric Surgeon after witnessing the tremendous benefit these surgeries had on the lives of his patients. Patients would routinely lose over a hundred pounds and be cured of their diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea, joint & back pain, high cholesterol, and a long list of medical illnesses caused by obesity. Their social lives would completely transform as well. People would become free of the weight burden and would live active lives engaging with their friends and families. No other field offered this level of satisfaction. No other field had this level of human impact.

In 2002, he became amongst the first fellowship trained bariatric surgeons in the United States. He founded the Mehta Bariatric Center, dedicating his time and focus on the treatment of obesity. He has helped 3,000 people lose about 250,000 lbs. and has helped about an another 1,000 people with body contouring procedures such as Tummy-tucks & liposuction. He has served as Chief of Bariatric Surgery at 2 hospitals, was amongst the first in the world to perform Robotic Bariatric Surgery, and is currently among a handful in the US with experience with the Gastric Plication procedure. He is unique in that he can offer patients both Bariatric Surgery & Body Contouring procedures. Patients find comfort in continuing care by the same surgeon with whom they have already developed a trusting relationship. His affiliated hospital is a designated MBSAQIP: Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery Accredatation & Quality Improvement Program. Although a majority of our patients are from NJ, NY & PA, some travel much greater distance, especially those who have complex issues.

On a personal note, he found the love of his life, got married, and started a family. As you can see, he's got his hands full. When he's not working, he can be found home with the family. His better half, Laura, is a Nurse Practitioner with a degree in Exercise Science. She also works at the practice and is involved in patient care, nutrition and exercise.

Dr. Mehta lives as he preaches, encourages patients to maintain a healthy lifestyle, and above all...enjoy life!
