An endoscopy is performed under twilight anesthesia. A small camera is gently guided down a patient's mouth into the stomach usually for diagnostic purposes. These are performed routinely pre-operatively as well as in the future, if needed. Dr. Mehta performs them himself making it convenient for patients as they have one less doctor or office to go to. We often get patients who've had surgery elsewhere and are in need for a revision. A quick endoscopy can help tell us what the best options would be. For example, if the stomach pouch is stretched out, it can be oversewn (Plicated) and made smaller. Performing endoscopies personally also helps Dr. Mehta in more accurate diagnosis since he'll be seeing the issue with his own eyes. It also helps us provide our patients with continuity of care.
If you had bariatric surgery and feel that your stomach has stretched out, you may benefit from an endoscopy. Dr. Mehta can quickly and accurately diagnose and treat the issue, putting you back on track.
