Dr. Mehta is one of the few surgeons in the country who is performing Revision Surgery laparoscopically.

  • StomaphyX Procedure – (Endoscopic Revision of stomach pouch and outlet). It reduces the size of the stomach pouch and outlet by using a camera and the device through the mouth. This procedure requires no incisions, has minimal pain and is done as an outpatient basis. Reducing the stomach pouch in this manner makes one feel full after just a few bites of food, similar to the initial gastric bypass, allowing you to start losing weight again. Currently, it can only be performed on patients who had undergone a gastric bypass, gastroplasty, or sleeve gastrectomy. Click Here for more information!
  • Laparoscopic insertion of the Lap-Band over the previous Gastric Bypass – Placing a Lap-Band over the previous gastric bypass is another way of helping people lose more weight. It can often be a very effective and safe revision surgery.
  • Laparoscopic revision of a RNY Gastric Bypass – This procedure is often performed laparoscopically in patients who have significantly stretched their stomach pouch and outlet. It involves resecting the stomach pouch, outlet, and a few cm of intestine; followed by creating a new smaller pouch and outlet. This can help people lose weight again since they once again get the feeling of fullness after a few bites of food.
  • Laparoscopic revision of Gastroplasty (Stomach Stapling) to RNY Gastric Bypass – Often, older staplers from the gastroplasty would come apart over the years, undoing the surgery and leaving the patient with a full size stomach. This can lead to weight gain over the years. Converting it to a RNY Gastric Bypass is often a good choice for these patients who can once again feel the restriction of a gastric bypass and lose significant weight.
  • Laparoscopic revision of Gastric Band to RNY Gastric Bypass – For some patients, the gastric band leads to suboptimal weight loss. Usually, such condition can be reversed by proper follow-up, nutrition, and exercise. There are some, however, who desire greater weight loss. Removing the band and performing the Gastric Bypass can be a good option.
  • Laparoscopic ulcer resection – Some gastric byass patients may have recurrent ulcers at the gastric outlet, which can be problematic. Often they can be cured by medicines and staying away from cigarettes, alcohol and caffeine. Infrequently, they may be need to be resected. This procedure can also be performed laparoscopically removing the ulcer and recreating a new stomach outlet.
